Grace Fellowship Church Pastor/Teacher Jim Rickard Tuesday, August 9, 2011 www.GraceDoctrine.org

Doxology Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.— Amen.

New Memory Verse New Memory Verse John 17:4, “I glorified You on the earth, having accomplished the work which You have given Me to do.”

John 17 The Great High Priestly Prayer of our Lord!

John 17:2 The Giving of Eternal Life!

“Even as you gave Him authority over all flesh.” “All Flesh” = PAS SARX = the entire human race.

A.T. Robertson, “This is a stupendous claim impossible for a mere man to make. Made already in Mat 11:27; Luke 10:22 and repeated in Mat 28:18 after His resurrection.”

Mat 11:27, “All things have been handed over to Me by My Father…”

Mat 28:18, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.”

“To all whom (believers) You (God the Father) have given Him (Jesus Christ).”

“Given” – DIDOMI: Perfect, Active, Indicative. In eternity past, God the Father gave Christ a specific group of “all flesh” called believers.

“He may Give” - DIDOMI; Aorist, Active, Subjunctive. The 3 rd gift of this passage. The purpose: the gift of eternal life to the believer.

“Eternal life” – ZOE AIONIOS

3 Gifts: 1. The Father has given the Son authority over all mankind; 2. The Son gives eternal life to; 3. Those the Father has given the Son.

Each believer is God’s love gift to the Son, John 6:37-40.

“The gifts and calling of God are irrevocable”, Rom 11:29. This means that our salvation is secure, for the Father will not take us from the Son!

Principles: 1. The Father gave to Jesus Christ as His bride, all believers of the Church Age.

2. If a believer in the Church Age is going to be in the bride of Christ he has to live with Christ as long as Christ lives; forever. So Jesus gives them the life they need to live with Him forever, John 10:28.

John 10:28, “And I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.”

3. Application: Do you as a single believer pray for your future spouse?

4. While on earth the Church is the body of Christ. Eph 2:16; 4:4-5, 12; 5:30-32; Col 1:24; 2:19, etc.

5. After the Rapture of the Church, believers of the Church Age become the bride of Christ. 2 Cor 11:2; Eph 5:25-27; Rev 19:6-8

6. While Christ is glorified in heaven the bride is being prepared on earth. The preparation of the bride is called the body.

7. The Father gives Jesus the bride. Jesus has the authority to give the bride eternal life.
