My Orca Animal Report By: Michael Kaplan

Introduction I chose the orca because, I like the ocean and I wanted my animal to be a whale. I liked the time I saw the orcas do cool tricks in Chicago, Illinois. It was really cool. I like how they jump up in the air. That is the only time you can see the whole whale. The kind of whale that I picked is very dangerous. You better swim away fast from the orca! I bet it can swim very fast! Once it killed a shark. I am looking forward learning more about the orca. I hope you are too!

Body Characteristics Here are some of the body characteristics on the orca. The orca is 8,000 pounds. It sure weighs a lot! The orcas colors are black and white. It is mostly black. The orca has skin covering on it. It would probably be cool to feel an orca! The orca has big bones. They are probably cool. The orca is 8 meters long. That is very long. The orcas body parts are teeth, a tail, fins, eyes, and a tongue. I hope you enjoy learning about the life cycle of the orca.

Life Cycle Here are some facts about the orcas life cycle. The orca has babies anytime of the year. That would be fun. The orcas babies are called calves. That is very weird. The moms take care of the babies. That must be fun for the dads. Right after an orca is born it swims to the surface for air in seconds. That must be hard for them. A new born orca is 6 ½ feet long. That is very long! A new born orca is 330 pounds. They weigh a lot. Baby orcas stay in a pod for its whole life. That is very weird! Even 7 year old orcas stay in pods with their mother. That would be fun. Orcas grow up to 50 to 100 years. That is very cool! I hope you enjoy learning about food and nutrition of the orca.

Food and Nutrition Here are some facts about food and nutrition of the orca. The orca eats fish, squid, seals and other animals. That is a lot of food they eat! The orca catches its food. I wish I could catch my food. The orca eats up to 550 pounds of food a day. That is a lot of food that they eat in one day! The orca is called cannibalistic , because it eats other orcas. That is very weird. Now I am going to tell you about the orcas habitat. I hope you like it!

Habitat Here are some facts about the habitat of the orca. They live in almost all of the oceans in the world. That is very cool! It is very cold in the ocean. Orcas probably aren’t cold, because they are warm blooded. Did you know that orcas live in pods. That is very cool! Some pods have less than 10 whales. That is not a lot of whales. Other pods have as many as 50 whales. That is a lot of whales compared to 10 whales. I hope you have fun learning about the enemies of the orca.

Enemies and Survival Functions Here are some facts about enemies and survival functions of the orca. I hope you like it! Did you know humans pollute in water. That is very bad, because it is bad for the ocean. The orca is threatened by hunting prey depletion and exposure to human activities such as disturbance from boats including whale watching crafts, particularly when they venture closer to shore. That is very cool! Did you know that orcas are the top predator in the ocean. That must be very fun for them. I hope you enjoy learning about some interesting facts about the orca!

Closing Paragraph Did you know the orca is a mammal. The orca is called cannibalistic, because it likes to eat other orcas. That is very weird! Did you know that the orca has a blow hole. It must be very cool. The orca is the top predator in the ocean. I would like that a lot! The orca grows up to 50 to 100 years that is a long time. Did you know that they do cool tricks at SeaWorld. That would be very cool to see! The orca lives in almost all of the oceans in the world. That would be awesome! I hope you get to learn more about an orca someday!
