A History of Puppets Puppetry is believed to have started in ancient cultures, more than 3000 years ago. It is sometimes claimed that puppets were used.

History of Water Puppet! Water Puppet is considered to have originated in the Red river in Vietnam in the 11 th century, and the art remains highly developed today in this country. At that time, famous puppetry machine began to appear around the country in Red river and midland areas. Northern Vietnam staged water puppet performance to celebrate the end of the rice harvest, religious festivals and other important occasions. The first Vietnamese puppet shows weren’t just for entertainment of the villagers – the shows were thought to keep the spirits entertained enough that they would not cause mischief. Water puppetry is a traditional art form native only to the Vietnamese. This particular craft is highly intricate, despite the simple images and storylines.

What the puppet looks like and description The puppets can swim, catch fish, cross sword, row a boat, raise a flock of ducks, dance, jump high in the sky, spurt fire and kick a ball. It is painted in bright colors. They are many kinds of puppets not only people but also the animals. They hold or wear special equipment to show what they are doing clearly.

How are they made? A water puppet stands on a round wooden plate, which can rotate around with a rudder at the bottom. The plate is connected with a long pole, which the puppeteer uses to move the puppet on the water.

What stores do the Water puppets act out? A performance consists of short scenes lasting a few minutes each. Themes include humorous aspects of daily life, fairy tales, folk legends, and national history. A small orchestra accompanies the vocalists and provides dramatic effects with drums and cymbals fireworks also figure in some of the stories. The scenes set in the performances can include farming traditions, buffalo fighting, fishing, and special events.
