Tree of Life  There is a vast amount of detail in this painting.  Notice the “Egyptian eye” sprouting from the branches.  There are triangles, swirls, and circles within circles.  The colors intensify as you get at the flower garden on the ground.  Made from gold and ceramic tiles, exotic woods, glass, and jewels.  Tree symbolizes life cycles. Seedpods and other organic shapes represents creativity and rebirth; the black bird symbolizes death.

Gustav Klimt Tree of Life Gustav Klimt painted the “Tree of Life” which is an important symbol in nearly every culture. The Tree of Life represents wisdom, protection, strength, and beauty. It reaches up into the sky and down into the earth. It links Heaven, Earth, and the Underworld. The swirled branches make people want to keep looking at the painting to explore and find more. Even with the mixed up patterns and swirly branches we still will always recognize it as The Tree of Life.

Gustav Klimt Tree of Life 1. Draw a ground line and the center tree trunk with a pencil. Add curly branches to the left and right. Add more curls wherever they fit. 2. Trace all the pencil lines with a chisel-tip black Sharpie marker. Add some extra thickness to the tree trunk and beginning of the branches. 3. Paint the ground one color Paint splotches of color all over the tree and background. Overlap the splotches a bit so that the colors run together.

Gustav Klimt Tree of Life 1. Draw center tree trunk. 2. Add one curvy branch to the right and one to the left. 3. Centre two more curvy branches on either side. Draw the ground line behind the tree. 4. Add small curvy branches. 5. Add small abstract triangle leaves and mushroom shapes. 6. Add abstract designs inside the tree and on the ground. Erase the lines where the branches are added on. 7. Trace all the lines with a permanent black marker. Color the tree.
