Animal Reports By Sydney Leiser Gray Whale

Introduction Did you know that whaling for the gray whale has raised in a big extinction by the 17 or 18 century because the Korean population, on the western part of the North Pacific, was feared extinct? But only a little amount stayed alive and survived because the Korean’s relied on the gray whale to help them survive. As part of the Korean’s diet. The gray whale is a great animal! If you want to learn more keep reading.

Life Cycle Did you know that the gray whale has an incomplete metamorphosis? An incomplete metamorphosis is when an animal only grows and doesn’t change looks. A gray whale’s pregnancy is for months long! Also, the calves (which are baby whales) can usually be born in late December to early February and are born in the water. Also a baby gray whale weighs 800 pounds! If you want to learn about the food and nutrition then keep reading.

Food and Nutrition Did you know that the gray whale drinks about 1,500 gallons of water a day? The gray whale also can eat up to probably 1,000 of food a day too! To eat, the gray whale rolls on it’s sides and sucks up water and mud witch contain other shrimp like creatures. The gray whale also can eat plankton, sea lions, and sea turtles! For the gray whale also to eat it dives for food in waters 395 feet deep! If you didn’t know about the gray whales food and nutrition, well now you know!

Habitat Did you know that the gray whale can be found in the artic feeding grounds in April through November, and in Mexican breeding grounds in December through April? Also the gray whale can live on a surface of the ocean near the coastline but dives to feed. The gray whale can also live in the Artic ocean but usually lives in the North Pacific ocean. The gray whale lives in the North Pacific ocean because of it’s unique migration so in winter it can go to the Artic to chase salmon to the top of the water to eat. Now you’ve learned about the gray whales unique habitat, now keep reading to find out more special facts about the gray whale.

Enemies and Survival Functions You might of thought that the gray whale has tons of enemies, but your wrong! The gray whale only has 3! The gray whales enemies are polar bears, sharks, and most importantly humans! Humans are enemies because of to much whaling in certain areas. The gray whale mother can hold their baby’s on their belly’s for protection. A mother gray whale won’t let the baby gray whale from her side. If her baby is threatened she becomes very angry and dangerous. When the mother gets angry and dangerous it frightens the predator. If you want to learn more about the gray whale, keep reading!

Interesting Facts Why I chose this animal is because at that time I was in a face were I was thinking of the ocean a lot so I decided to do an ocean creature which happened to be a gray whale. An interesting fact could be did you know whales breath air exactly the way people do? In fact, if whales don’t come up to breath, they can dround! Another interesting fact is whales are wonderful at swimming! They move gracefully through the water with their powerful flukes. Gray whales have lots of scars on their head! When eating they drag their head on the ground which causes scars. Where almost done with our interesting report! Keep reading!

Closing Paragraph Well, we’ve had a long journey with some excellent learning about the gray whale with some good facts. One of the most important things about the body characteristics was the heart because without it the animal would die. Also an important thing about the life cycle is the animal has an incomplete metamorphosis because it’s a live birth and it just gets bigger. Also the most important thing about the food and nutrition is that it eat and drinks 2,050 pounds of food and water a day because if it didn’t it wouldn’t be able to do what it needs to do because it wouldn’t have enough energy. Also the most important thing about the habitat is it lives in the North Pacific Ocean because of the gray whales interesting migration. Now the most important thing about the Enemies and Survival is how the gray whale survives because without it, it would never be considered safe. Lastly, the most important thing about the interesting facts is how I decided to do this report on the gray whale because if I didn’t you and I would’ve never learned anything about the amazing gray whale! Thanks for reading about the gray whale!
