Final Portfolio By Alex McWilliams Texas A&M Corpus Christi

Philosophy of Learning During the spring semester of college I have experienced what it means to be a well- educated, well rounded college student with difference situations that have helped me to achieve various goals while understanding key concepts of the courses in Triad L related to my personal values and goals in life. Throughout the semester I have learned a lot about myself as a college student. Through various research papers and other projects it has helped me to understand what hard work and motivation can achieve in life.

Achievements of Learning  For this section it has helped me to discover my goals/strengths by looking back on how I studied in high school compared to college, how I have improved my grades, and motivation to succeed in graduating college to earn a degree to support myself and family in the future.

Achievements in Learning  In Seminar I wrote a proposal for how I would be able to change the traveling abroad with pets issue for the better. The Research Proposal helped me to make a political connection of the traveling abroad with pets issue to my political science class, while also applying it to society in order to enable more animal rights in public places as well as around the country, and abroad in foreign countries.

Achievements in Learning  For Political Science I discovered how I have improved on my test taking skills by reading the book and doing the review handouts by displaying the amount of effort I put into the class outside of lecture. By reading the book I learned various concepts like voting/elections, Texas structure of government, and the Texas court systems. Understanding how it relates to my life as a college student has helped me become involved in political issues, and understand the importance of voting, and ideologies even as a young citizen.

Achievements of Learning  In Spanish this semester I have learned a lot about what it means to help others by tutoring a senior in my class to assist him in passing the quizzes in order to graduate in the fall. In tutoring my classmate it has taught me that I am gaining teaching skills that I thought I would never have.

Assessment of Learning  In Seminar the first grade I received was a 30 on a chapter review that was to be turned in… I improved and analyzed a lot of scholarly articles to accomplish a multiple perspectives research paper in which I earned an A, and also received 0% percent plagiarism due to the fact that it was correctly sited in the APA format. In accomplishing my goal I learned that I can achieve anything I please with just a little dedication and hard work.

Assessment of Learning  For Political Science I discovered how I have improved by reading the book going from 7.5 out of 10, to 10 out of 10 by doing the connect assignments and doing the review handouts. In doing so it has displayed the amount of effort I put into the class outside of lecture. By reading the book I learned various concepts like voting/elections, Texas structure of government, and the Texas court systems. Understanding how it relates to my life as a college student has helped me become involved in political issues, and understand the importance of voting, and ideologies even as a young citizen.

Assessments of Learning  Throughout this semester in my music class I have maintained an high grade by starting out with a well written paper over the Opera Carmen, and transitioning to making A’s on multiple quizzes. By making good grades in music class it has taught me to become a more effective reader/writer and observer from the beginning of the semester not retaining hardly any information, until now at to the end of the semester understanding what music truly is.

Relevance of Learning  In Seminar after learning a lot about time management, and communication skills it has helped me to critically think and understand my personal goals, strengths, and values I have now as a college student and how it varied in comparison as the high school student I once was. In addition, it has taught me to use my time wisely, and in return for example I can use the hard work I put in, and reward myself to relaxing free time at the beach to maybe one day fulfill my dream of learning how to surfboard.

Relevance of Learning For Political Science I have learned more about myself as a student, my personal values and understanding the accumulated information over the semester in which has addressed political aspects like the traveling abroad with pets presentation and how it politically involves society. It has benefited my political behaviors as a student by helping me to become more involved by voting for political campaigns in Texas State and Local government.

Relevance of Learning  Macroeconomics has taught me that there are many challenging courses I am going to have to overcome in college, and how I still have plenty of constructive experiences to learn from to be able to stay motivated to never give up on my goals as a educated college student. Even though there were errors in the Media Article assignment, and 5% plagiarism I still received an A for the determination the professor saw throughout the paper, and it also helped me to always be ready to learn and grow as a student.

Learning Goals  Even though I am Undecided with my major right now I believe that the courses in Triad L, and outside of Triad L this semester it has helped me to gain a better understanding of what I want to do with my career in the future. With Political Science and Macroeconomics it has helped me to see an overview of what a business major would look like as well as voting for representatives for the state of Texas. Also with the Spanish class I am enrolled in it has gave me a good idea of what a teaching degree would look like while traveling abroad. Now that I understand my strengths and weaknesses as a student I can see how it varies in comparison as the high school student I once was. I have learned what to do and what not to do to be able to succeed therefore I am planning on maintaining a high GPA in order to possibly transfer to a school that has a good construction management program to be able to assess my goals I have created as a freshman here in college to be able to change my life, and hopefully society for the better.
