Construction Drawings

Objectives Briefly recognize the history of construction drawings Recognize who creates construction drawings and the tools used today. Recognize the basic components within a set of construction drawings used today.

Why are they important?

They are important because construction drawings speak a universal language that all involved in the building process can understand. What may be another name traditionally used for construction drawings?

Blueprints Developed in 1842 by an astronomer and photographer named Sir John Herschel as an inexpensive method used for copying very time consuming technical drawings.

Construction Drawings have been used for thousands of years with some of the first dating back to 2800 b.c. by an Eygptian architect named Imhotep builder of the pyramid of Djoser.

Who creates these drawings and how?

Architects and Computer-Aided Drafters
