Drafting related courses: Drafting I Drafting II – Architecture (HN) Civil Engineering & Architecture (PLTW)

Drafting I

Drafting I- Topics Leadership Operation and function of Business meetings Personal and Organizational Goals Career Pathway Assessment Career opportunities within Drafting related careers

Drafting I - Topics SKETCHING Multi-view and pictorial Isometric, Oblique, Perspective

Drafting I - Topics DRAFTING SKILLS Use of drafting equipment and supplies Lettering technique Drawing procedures Single-view construction

The Remaining Topics in Drafting I Geometric Terms and Constructions Multi-View Drawing (Orthographic Projection) Computer-Aided Drawing (CAD) 2D and 3D Dimensioning Practices

Drafting I Information Required prior to Architecture Drafting 2 recommended prior to any Engineering Design courses (PLTW) Notebook/ Portfolio required 0.5mm Mechanical pencil needed EXCELLENT ATTENDANCE needed, (ie: easy to fall behind) For more information, see my website: http://rrhs-engineering-design- academy.cmswiki.wikispaces.net/

Drafting II- Architecture

Drafting II – Architecture Topics LEADERSHIP Job seeking skills, Interview techniques Professional Code of Ethics for Architects and related careers Targeted Career Exploration

Drafting II – Architecture Topics CAD as an architectural drawing tool Using CAD to create drawings AutoCAD2011 Revit2011

Drafting II – Architecture The Drawings Floor Plans– symbols, space planning, doors, windows, electrical and plumbing fixtures Foundation Plans– terminology, footings, foundation types Basic Roof Design– terminology, types Section Drawings– floor, wall construction Detail Drawings– Insulation methods, energy efficiency Exterior Elevations– Architectural Styles

Drafting II – Architecture Other Information Some drawings will be done by hand drafting methods. Notebook and Portfolio are required. 0.5mm Mechanical Pencil, 4MB Flash “Thumb” drive Semester long Custom Home Project. Team based approach For more information, see my website: http://rrhs-engineering-design- academy.cmswiki.wikispaces.net/

Drafting II – Architecture Topics Architectural History and Styles Space Planning / Floor Plan Creation Building Materials Estimating Site Planning, Foundation Types and Construction Electrical Planning Plumbing Planning Roof Design and Planning

Drafting II – Architecture Topics Residential Framing / Section and Detail Plans Elevation Plans, Interior / Exterior Architectural Model Building Professional Presentations Architectural Research

CIVIL ENGINEERING & ARCHITECTURE

Civil Engineering & Architecture--Topics Overview of Civil Engineering & Architecture Project Design / Development Project Documentation & Portfolio Development

Civil Engineering & Architecture--Topics Architectural Styles and History Floor Plans Elevations Sections & Details Schedules Energy Systems and Efficiency Mechanical, Electrical, and Protection Systems

Civil Engineering & Architecture--Topics Site Selection Development Options Legal Description of Property Site Plan Layout and Requirements Public Ingress & Egress

Civil Engineering & Architecture--Topics Site Grading Utilities Landscaping Water Supply and Wastewater Management

Civil Engineering & Architecture--Topics Introduction to Structural Engineering –Foundations –Columns and Beams –Roof Systems

Tips for success Engineering notebook …daily accountability. File storage: cd rw, thumb drives, “extra” network storage, hard drive?... All activities done in pairs or teams. Spend time early exploring software…simple structures through commercial during semester……site work tricky…

More Tips Spend ample time on structural calculations during related activities and in review mode… Part B of final exam will be very challenging. Overarching project “Commercial project/final presentation” is a full quarter and then some depending on how much detail you develop….don’t get bogged down early.

More Tips… The Projects: 1)Arch/CE research presentation; 2)Simple structures Revit; 3) Lakehouse project; and all related drawings 4) Surveying; Legal Descriptions 5) Contour Map (3d) survey mapping 6) Commercial Project and presentation, full set of plans, and professional presentation of idea --includes all project development knowledge (covenants, title search, etc), all site work topics, utilities, structural, all calculations (MDSolids) (we do not do the soil analysis project although it will be introduced during the site work section.
