2 nd Grade Technology Adventure Brittani Matson

Classroom Context I was in the 2 nd Grade at Sage Creek Elementary There was not a ton of technology at Sage Creek There was a: Tv and dvd/vcr in our room Computer and Printer in our room Digtal Camera and Video Camera (Teacher’s Personal Possessions) A technology cart has a laptop and projector

Math Lesson Plan I centered my Math Lesson Plan around Identifying and creating 3 and 4 digit using the concept of ones places, tens places, hundreds places and thousands place I chose to recreate this lesson because my favorite technology we worked on in class was the online math manipulatives. I didn’t get the chance to teach it but when I am a teacher I wanted to be prepared to do so. The Lesson Plan can be found on Math Lesson Plan Math Lesson Plan

Science Lesson Plan This is a weather lesson on predicting and observing weather patterns Using the Paint application they will predict the weather for the next day by drawing what it would look like outside their bedroom window. The following day they would return and paint the actual weather. Then we would display their predictions/observations all over the classroom. This lesson plan can be found on Weather Lesson Plan Weather Lesson Plan

Language Arts Lesson Plans Print Concepts Thru Shared Reading This was the lesson I implemented in my classroom. I was asked to teach a vocabulary lesson on the story Ibis: A True Whale Story I chose to use powerpoint to give them all access to the text, make the vocabulary very visual, and increase their interest The Lesson Plan can be accessed at Print Concepts Print Concepts

IMPLEMENTED LESSON I learned from this experience that Technology really engages the students! There eyes were right on me! I think that the enjoyment of the lesson was its biggest strong point! They were so excited.

What Could Improve: They were so excited however they didn’t get a lot out of the lesson. I had to review it all the next day before the actually reading. In the Future I would try to set clearer expectations for behavior to help them focus

Technology Integration The use of technology was too passive. The STUDENTS should have made powerpoints of the Vocabulary then they would have been much more likely to actually retain the information because they were actively a part of it! But I just wasn’t allotted enough time!

Was it Essential? The technology use was the main part of the lesson! Without it the lesson would not have funtioned as well! It made excitement and transitions perfect!

Did Technology Help? The focus of the lesson was achieved through the technology so it really helped the learning objective come through It would have been easier to do this lesson without technology because they got so excited they had a hard time focusing. But with a better introduction to expections it would have been fine!
