CTE Definitions 1 Endorsement - Term used by CDE for specialty areas for which the instructor has met a specific set of criteria. Credential - Term used by CCCS for Pathway/Cluster areas for which an instructor has met a specific set of criteria. Credential vs. Endorsement - what CCCS called “credential” is now referred to as a CTE “endorsement”.

CTE Definitions 2 Occupational experience - For most CTE credential/endorsement areas the time frame is seven years with the exception of Health Science Technology, which requires five years paid experience. Student teaching (up to 800 hours of credit) may be combined with occupational experience to meet the 2,000 hour requirement. Paraprofessional experience is not accepted. Self-employment is verified by tax forms. Teaching experience - the three years of required teaching experience does not need to be consecutive, but must be within the last seven years. Teaching experience at the Community College level is also accepted

Five Year CTE Authorization ( CTE added to a Professional Teacher License) 5 In July of 2009, CDE began adding valid Five Year CTE credentials to valid Professional (five year) licenses. The date on the Professional Teaching license will take precedence. Six semester hours of credit to renew both CTE credentials and Teaching endorsements

What makes CTE unique? 10 Initial CTE Authorization Cannot be renewed Applicant must complete the requirements assigned at the time of issuance and apply to convert the CTE Initial to a CTE Professional five year authorization. Reinstatement – Additional requirements when a Five Year CTE Authorization has lapsed for 2 years or more 1,000 hours of occupational (non-teaching) experience in the credentialed area. For candidates who have been teaching in the credentialed area for the last seven years, three years of that experience may be substituted for the 1,000 hours of occupational experience.
