COPYRIGHT AND PUBLISHING Publishing your work is different to writing an essay for a subject!

EXCEPTIONS TO THIS Fair Dealing: Criticism or Review “A fair dealing with a literary, dramatic, musical or artistic work, or with an adaptation of a literary, dramatic or musical work, does not constitute an infringement of the copyright in the work if it is for the purpose of criticism or review, whether of that work or of another work, and a sufficient acknowledgement of the work is made.” Copyright Act 1968 – Sect 41

SELF-PLAGIARISM – IS IT A CRIME? Publishing your own work in several locations – with or without citing yourself Do you think this is ok?

ASSIGNING COPYRIGHT Assign – hand over the rights to the work to someone else. This means you don’t own it anymore. BUT! You can add an author amendment.

ONLINE THESES Ensure your thesis is copyright compliant. Written permission for work not your own Everything is correctly cited If publishing first: Letter to the editor Author license addendum Link back to published articles in your thesis.
