Review: Week 1 1.Music is a “hot button” with many Christians today. 2.Music is becoming a “personal god.” 3.Music invades our culture in ways never known to mankind. 4.Music is a very Biblical matter. God has tons to say about music.

Review: Week 2  Music is the gauge by which you can determine what the world is pursuing.  Amoral- “being neither moral nor immoral” (Webster Dictionary)  Many people believe that music is amoral (neutral) (non-emotional). “The sound doesn’t effect me, just the lyrics.”  This is where CCM supporters go wrong. They believe that music is neutral and that the lyrics justify the worldly music style.  Proof: Practically, Worldly, Biblically

Review: Week 3  Many Rock artists emphasize and build music around the rhythm.  Satan’s Mission: To exalt himself above God.  Many Christians don’t really believe that the devil is real.  2 Cor. 11:14-15

Satan wants to pervert music! “Satan is one of the chief promoters of Christian Music” GOD

Week 4 review  There is nothing wrong with new…  …however it is wrong when it disobeys God’s commandments in the Bible.  CCMers disobeys God’s commandment on separation.  “Music always produces a lifestyle”  CCM is diluting Biblical Christianity!  Rom 12:2; Gal. 1:10; 1 Pet. 1:14-16; Jam 4:4; 1Jh. 2:15-16

Bible Filtering Passage Galatians 5:16-25

Passage Explained:  V.16- “…walk in the Spirit…”  Walk- “continuous action; progress; lifestyle”  Spirit- God’s means to communicate, convict, convince, comfort, and control born again believers.  Fulfill- “perform, complete”  Lust- “desire, cravings”  Flesh- “mind, emotions, and will which are subject to sin.”

Passage Explained:  V. 17- “flesh lusteth against the Spirit…”  Lusteth- “desires, cravings, longings”  Flesh longs to please self.  Spirit longs to please God.  Contrary- “to lie opposite; oppose”  V.18- “…be led of the Spirit…”  Led- “controlled; guided by; submitted to”  Law- “a godly life is not lived under a set of rules, but by Holy Spirit control.”

Passage Explained:  V Characteristics of the Flesh.  Manifest- “displayed, obvious, public, known”  V Characteristics of the Spirit.  V. 24- “…have crucified the flesh…”  They that are Christ’s- Born-again Believers  Have crucified- “put off; death; die to self”  With the affections and lusts- “passions and longings for sin/flesh.”

Walking/ Living in the Spirit is a COMMAND from God’s Word! Therefore, everything you…do, say, watch, read, and LISTEN to… must encourage you to “walk in the Spirit.”

Does your music encourage…  Biblical Love?  Joy (happiness/ glad)?  Peace (inner calm that comes from having a relationship with God) ?  Longsuffering (Patience)?  Gentleness (Kindness)?  Goodness (moral excellence)?  Faith (loyal; trustworthy)?  Meekness (humility)?  Self-Control (restrains passions)?

Gal. 5:19-23 is our Filter  Question…  Does the song/ group you listen to promote the works of the flesh or the fruits of the Spirit???  Let’s put some songs to the test!

Question:  If these people, Jonas Brothers, Fergie, Secondhand Serenade, Miley Cyrus, promote this kind of fleshly lifestyle do you think their other songs will too?  What about the other groups/ songs you listen to? THINK!  Please turn to Galatians 6:7-8  Please turn to Isaiah 3:9-12

Closing thoughts:  If you are bored with “biblical, God honoring music” its not because the music is boring its because you have a heart problem!  If you are truly walking in the Spirit you will WANT to listen and sing God honoring, Spirit filled music!

Conclusion:  All music will either endorse the works of the flesh or the fruits of the Spirit.  In order to be in obedience to Gal. 5 if any of your music endorses any one of the works of the flesh it must be avoided.  Next Week (Topic, Questions)
