Getting God’s Very Best Where might you go if you wanted the tastiest meals, and why? What if you wanted the healthiest meals, and why? At your age, you might not think much about the nutritional value of the food you eat. Why will this matter more as you get older? What might be some similarities and parallels between physical food and spiritual food? How spiritual healthy are you right now? If you don’t know, how might you figure out an answer to that question?

Getting God’s Very Best And so, dear brothers and sisters, * I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. * 2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. (Romans 12:1-2) Why do many Christians copy or imitate the behavior and patterns and choices of our world and culture? What are some consequences if we do this? Why and how does changing the way you think contribute to God’s work of transformation in your life?

Getting God’s Very Best Paul wrote that God’s will for you is good and pleasing and perfect. What does each of those three words mean to you, and what emotions do they evoke? What words would you use to describe the experience of choosing to go your own direction and ignoring God’s will? What does Romans 12:2 tell you about the process of change and spiritual growth? How much responsibility falls on God’s shoulders and how much falls on your shoulders as an r12 Christian? Last week, we talked about the importance of surrendering everything to God. How does this fit into the ideas of being separate from the world and renewing our minds?

5 Tips for Renewing of your mind God blesses the one who reads the words of this prophecy to the church, and he blesses all who listen to its message and obey what it says, for the time is near. (Rev 1:3 NLT) Read God’s Words Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, e and the message is heard through the word about Christ. (Romans 10:17 TNIV) Hear God’s Word Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth. (2 Tim 2:15 NLT) Study God’s Word I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. (Psalm 119:11 NLT) Memorize God’s Word Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. (Joshua 1:8) Meditate on God’s Word

Do Not Love This World 15 Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. 16 For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. 17 And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever. (1 John 2:15-17). Feel Lust of the flesh Have Lust of eyes be Pride of life Passions we pursue in the wrong way that displeases God: Passion to…

What are some specific ways Satan might go after teenagers with these three areas of temptation? You probably spend a lot of time thinking about the food you enjoy eating. How about spiritual food? What kind of “food” would help you grow as an r12 Christian? How are you doing with your “spiritual nutritional habits” right now, and what are some specific steps you can take to grow in this area? Feel Lust of the flesh Have Lust of eyes be Pride of life

Live it out Choose one of the five tips for renewing your mind we discussed in this lesson, and practice one of them every day this week. Journal about this experience, and see what God reveals to you and how He challenges you through this practice. Read days 16-20 of your daily devotional. Take a NO/YES challenge, Say “no” to something in your life—maybe take a media fast this week from Facebook or video games or your favorite TV shows. Say “yes” to using that time each day to read your Bible, pray, journal, listen to worship music, or reflect on God
