Mrs. Koehler 4 th Grade – Cicero Elementary PPA PowerPoint

The Six Steps of the PPA 1.Define the problem. 2.Gather evidence. 3.Identify causes. 4.Evaluate an existing policy. 5.Develop solutions. 6.Select the best solution.

DO Do you remember how you made your first friend? How DO we make friends?

IS What IS a friend?

It seems that some children have forgotten how to be a true friend, because we have a serious issue confronting children of all ages.

BULLYING

Problem: More and more students are victims of a bullying situation in their school setting which negatively disrupts their learning.

Evidence: Bullying is such an issue in New York State, that The Dignity Act was signed into law on September 13, 2010 and took effect on July 1, 2012.

Existing Policy: The Dignity Act seeks to provide the State’s public elementary and secondary school students with a safe and supportive environment free from discrimination, intimidation, taunting, harassment, and bullying on school property, a school bus and/or at a school function.

WE Today we’re going to read Julia Cook’s Making Friends Is an Art to discover ways that WE can be part of the solution to the serious social issue of bullying in our schools.

Your task: You and your group will create a poster demonstrating one (or more) ways to be a true friend and be part of the solution to the problem of bullying in our schools.
