Journal Question  22 Jan 2013  What are the units for mass, volume, and density of a solid object?

 Finding Mass, Volume, and Density

Mass  The amount of matter in an object  Measured in grams (g), milligrams (mg) or kilograms (kg)  Stays the same unless matter is removed or added.

Mass  Use the triple beam balance, and the digital balance to find the mass of ten different objects.  Record the objects, and the mass in your science notebook. Object (describe it)Mass (grams)

Journal Question  23 Jan 2013  Convert 230 mg into grams.  Convert 42.3 grams into milligrams.  Calculate the volume of a cube with each side measuring 2 cm.

Volume  Measures the amount of space an object occupies.  1ml = 1 cm 3  Milliliters and Liters for measuring Liquids ( ml, l)  Cubic Centimeters for measuring the volume of solids (cm 3 )

Volume Rectangular Solids  To find the volume of a rectangular solid:  Length x Width x Height  Find the volume of a cubic centimeter.  Find the volume of five other rectangular solids. ObjectLength cm Width cm Height cm Volume cm 3

Volume Liquids  To find the volume of a liquid, use a beaker or a graduated cylinder.  Choose a graduated cylinder to find the following volumes of water, and draw a picture of it in your science notebook.  10 ml, 50 ml, 100 ml, 32 ml, 5 ml
