Leonardo da Vinci painter, sculptor, architect, musician, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist, and writer By Enrique Davalos, 2/5/2015

Born on April 15, 1452, in Vinci, Italy, Leonardo da Vinci was concerned with the laws of science and nature, which greatly informed his work as a painter and sculptor Da Vinci has been called a genius and the archetypal Renaissance man. His talents inarguably extended far beyond his artistic works.

His most famous artwork, and possibly the most famous in the world, is the Mona Lisa. It was a privately commissioned work and was done sometime between 1505 and It originally was a picture of Lisa Gioconda, the wife of a merchant he knew.

The Last Supper was another one of his famous artworks. Commenced around 1495 and was commissioned as part of a scheme of renovations to the church and its convent buildings by Leonardo's patron Ludovico Sforza, Duke of Milan.

Da Vinci has been called a genius and the archetypal Renaissance man. His talents inarguably extended far beyond his artistic works. Like many leaders of Renaissance humanism, he did not see a divide between science and art.

Early Life Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452, in Vinci, Italy. Born out of wedlock, the love child of a respected notary and a young peasant woman, he was raised by his father, Ser Piero, and his stepmothers. He started his first artwork at the age of 14, however some can argue he began experimenting with drawings as young as 4. By the age of 20, he had qualified as a master artist in the Guild of Saint Luke and established his own workshop.

Career Despite the recent awareness and admiration of Leonardo as a scientist and inventor, for the better part of his four hundred years of fame, for the most part this fame rested on his achievements as a painter and on a handful of artworks. Leonardo's writings are mostly in mirror-image cursive. The reason may have been more a practical expediency than for personal reasons. Since Leonardo wrote with his left hand, it is probable that it was easier for him to write from right to left.

Leonardo died at Clos Lucé, on 2 May Francis 1 had become a close friend. He stated that in his last days, Leonardo sent for a priest to make his confession and to receive the Holy Sacrament. In accordance with his will, sixty beggars followed his casket. Da Vinci’s Magnificent artworks and engineering fame has and will continue to inspire those after him. Death & Legacy

Reflection I chose this artist for my powerpoint because he seemed interesting with his style of art, and why so many people liked his pieces so much like the Mona Lisa, and plus I had prior knowledge of him already.
