Golgi Body By: Sally, Sheila, and Tara
Definition “(also called the golgi apparatus or golgi complex) a flattened, layered, sac-like organelle that looks like a stack of pancakes and is located near the nucleus. The golgi body packages proteins and carbohydrates into membrane-bound vesicles for "export" from the cell.”
Structure Made of “membrane-bond” stacks –Called cisternae –Normally 5-8 stacks – some have as many as 60 Stacks have 5 regions –The cis-golgi network –The cis-golgi –Medial-golgi –Trans-golgi –Trans golgi network
Location In a cell Outside the nucleolus Floating in the cytoplasm
Function The primary function: to process and package the macromolecules like a packaging machine in an factory. The golgi body performs its functions: –proteins and lipids –It is particularly important in the processing of proteins for secretion.
