Department of ChemistryNMR Facility University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez Campus

Director of Facility – Enrique Meléndez

NMR Specialist – Aracelis Cardona

Welcome to the NMR Research Facility University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez  Overview The Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Facility serves about 10 researchers and over 25 graduate and undergraduate students within the Department of Chemistry and extramural researchers (outside the Department of Chemistry) through service contract or collaboration.

Description  The NMR Facility houses two spectrometers, one Varian Gemini 300 MHz and a multinuclear Bruker Avance 500 MHz. The 500 MHz spectrometer is well equipped with four channels for multipulse and nD (2D and 3D) NMR experiments. It has two probes: a broadband (BBO) and QXI. A wide variety of experiments can be performed to characterize organic, organometallic and inorganic compounds as well as more complex molecules such as proteins and oligonucleotides.

Service Components  The facility staff are available from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Mrs. Aracelis Cardona, NMR Specialist is in charge of arranging the service (ext. 2399). For extramural researchers, the service contract or collaboration will be managed by the Director, Professor Meléndez.

Rates  $65/hr with technical assistance  $50/hr without technical assistance  STAFF  Enrique Melendez, Ph.D. x-2524  Mrs. Aracelis Cardona, M.S. x-2399
