PREPOSTIONS are words that tell how nouns and pronouns relate to other words in a sentence.  Prepositions begin a prepositional phrase.  The noun/pronoun (and other words like adjectives) that follows the preposition is called the “object of the preposition”.  across the pond  during the long afternoon  since yesterday  after the deadly storm
