What to Expect AcDec

M.May’s Focus Areas: Music, Speech, Short Lit, Essay Each week, you can expect: Music – one MC listening quiz, one to two “text talks,” one (or more) student presentation(s) over composer/piece Speech – speaking exercises, check-ups on your prepared speech, impromptu practice, prepared speech performance and feedback Short Lit – one author/selection “text talk” Essay – one timed practice every other week w/feedback the following week (goal is 4 total before the test)

Music Survey Rate yourself according to the scale below: 1 = I have absolutely no knowledge of music theory 2 = My knowledge of music theory is limited to what’s in the AcDec Music Resource Guide 3 = I have some musical background, but I could use a few brush- ups on general music theory 4 = I am involved in (or have been involved in) music-related activities/groups, and I have quite a bit of music theory knowledge

Composer/Piece Presentation Each week, one (or more) of you will present the following information to us using a technological app or software, such as Prezi, Animoto, Educreations, PowerPoint, etc.: Composer biographical info (w/exception of “Anonymous”) to establish context of their writing Brief overview of “Listening Companion” associated w/song or composer Highlight important info from “Listening Guide” Play SHORT excerpt from musical selection Two to three representative pictures, other than what we already have in the Resource Guide Four to five minute limit
