A Race to Get Water Do Now: You have been studying and researching the drought in the last two weeks. Imagine you are explaining the drought to someone who has never heard of it before. You may only write two sentences summarizing all of your prior knowledge of the drought.

Reflecting on What We Already Know Based off of last week’s research, you have gained insight into the causes and effects of the drought. You organized your very own opinion and claims in regards to whether or not water resources should be limited in order to conserve water.

Objective We will thoroughly analyze an informational text using context clues and prior knowledge. Standards:L : Acquire and use accurately a range of general academic and domain-specific words and phrases sufficient for reading, writing, speaking, and listening at the college and career readiness level; demonstrate independence in gathering vocabulary knowledge when encountering an unknown term important to comprehension or expression. Reading 1.0: Students apply their knowledge of word origins to determine the meaning of new words encountered in reading materials and use those words accurately.
