CompTIA is “agnostic” or vendor-neutral: –In its representation of the information technology community –In its development of exams and certifications CompTIA offers a variety of other vendor- neutral tests such as Security+, Network+, etc. “Agnostic” Testing and Certifications

CompTIA and the Project Management Institute CompTIA maintains a working relationship with PMI The Project+ exam objectives closely map to the Project Management Professional (PMP) exam objectives The PMP exam and certification is much more extensive The Project+ exam and certification are a great starting point for beginning Project Management (PM) professionals

© SYBEX Inc All Rights Reserved. Why the Name Change? CompTIA determined that the IT Project+ exam objectives were generic enough that the “IT” title didn’t fit The exam (and our book) was renamed to “Project+” in October of 2004 The exam objectives and material remain the same

© SYBEX Inc All Rights Reserved. Do I need to be in IT to take the Project+ Exam? Absolutely not! Project Managers (PMs) work in a variety of disciplines (manufacturing, aerospace, etc.) However, IT is almost always a part of any given project!
