Good manners and courtesy are prized qualities… Be sure your behavior is polished at all times Always be considerate of others in all situations Proper business etiquette is essential while in Italy

When meeting and departing, always greet with a firm handshake. Italians prefer doing business with people the know and trust. Face-to-face contact with an individual is important…it is all about developing the relationships. One’s behavior demonstrated in the “first impression” is what they are remembered by.

Key to business in Italy: Networking Personal contacts allow a path to great success Not necessarily what you know, but WHO you know Get to know your business colleagues…build the relationship! Family Personal interests Italians are extremely expressive in their communication. Feel free to be extra wordy, emotional, and speak non-verbally with facial expressions and hand gestures.

Italians prefer doing business with high-ranking people; hierarchy is the basis of business. They respect power over age. Conferences are often very long and drawn out…they are simply the free-flow of collaborated ideas. They avoid any use high pressure sales tactics.

Schedule appointments at least 2 weeks in advance. It is proper to reconfirm any scheduled meeting with a call or fax. Always follow through with an agreed-upon decision Failing to do so will cost your credibly, as well as the relationship Italians value personal relationships…build them with full potential!
