Proposed Contingency Planning Regulation

Proposed Animal Welfare Act Contingency Planning Regulation USDA-APHIS 9 CFR Part 2: – Prepare contingency plans for all animals regulated under the Animal Welfare Act Proposed Plan Includes: – Humane handling, treatment, transportation, housing and care – Risk assessment – Evacuation, shelter-in-place – Developing chain of command

Implementation of Contingency Plans Plans in place by 180 days of new rule Plans may be requested by APHIS or any funding Federal Agency Train staff within 60 days of plan adoption After 30 days, train all new staff within 30 days of hire

AC Technical Assistance

APHIS AC Technical Assistance Provide assistance to regulated facilities during disasters AC’s expertise: – Housing large numbers of animals – Exotic species
