Philosophy of the book The goal is to increase intelligibility Not necessarily to achieve native like pronunciation Importance of stress and intonation

Contents There are 4 parts which consist of 36 unites Part 1 – An overview: Sounds of American English Part 2 – Stress and Intonation Part 3 – Vowel Sounds Part 4 – Consonant sounds

Exercises & Activities Minimal pairs – words and in sentences Stress and Intonation Listening exercises (audio cassettes) Communicative pair and group activities

pros & cons Introducing suprasegmental in the early unites Layout of minimal pairs – individual words and in the sentences are adjacent Different types of activities – listening, dialog, passage, poem, pair work, and discussion. Numbering Bolded letters that indicates primary stresses may be distracted. Unstressed words are crossed out and it could be distracted, too. Some explanations are simplified and it is not phonologically accurate.
