What is the day of the dead Day of the dead is a celebration for the dead people and their spirits come back to their family for 24 hours. It makes the spirits happy to come back and remember what life is like. Day of the dead was originally invented in the 16 th century in Mexico. When the people are in the graveyard they put yellow or orange marigolds down on the grave. The first celebration was in the summer but now it is on Nov.1or2. When the souls come down to earth to see their family the children souls come down first and then the adult souls come after the children.
