4 Sugar Skull Masks Sugar skulls are part of the Mexican holiday known as Day of the Dead or Dia de Los Muertos. Day of the Dead is celebrated on November 1st and 2nd. They are the two days of the year where the people of Mexico decorate alters with colorful flowers, food such as candy, breads, and cakes, and gifts to their deceased relatives. The special bread they make for this holiday is called Pan de Muertos, or bread of the dead. Day of the Dead is not meant as a scary holiday like Halloween rather a celebration of the lives their ancestors lived. Sugar skulls are traditionally made from sugar and decorated with icing. They are used as decoration and as offerings.
