Loving More Like Jesus

Scripture Reading – Matthew 22: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. 38 – This is the first and greatest commandment.

Scripture Reading – Matthew 22: – And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself On these hang all the Law and the Prophets.

John 13: A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 – By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.

We are to love the unlovable.

The love of God extends to all Man.

1 John 4:10-11,19 10 – In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11- Beloved if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another We love Him because He first loved us.

We are to love others first.

Even the Tax Collectors loved those who loved them.

Matthew 5:46 For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?

Romans 5:6-8 6 For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 – For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. 8 – But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Jesus loved those who Hated Him.

We are to be completely void of self interest.

Matthew 26:39 O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will. O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.

Jesus had a Choice.

Matthew 26:53 Or do you think that I cannot now pray to my Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels? Or do you think that I cannot now pray to my Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels?

Philippians 2:5-8 5 – Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God,

Philippians 2:5-8 7 – but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men, 8 – And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

Jesus made Himself nothing.

We are to love sacrificially.

John 15: – This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 – Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.

Jesus showed us what the standard of love is.

1 John 3: – By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. 17 – But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? 18 – My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.

Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

Ephesians 5: Wives submit to your own husbands as to the Lord For the husband is the head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body.

24 - Therefore just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her.

Colossians 3: Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 – bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.
