Canada’s Name Canada is a country in North America and is also the second largest country in the world. The word “Canada” comes from an old Huron word “kanata” which means “settlement” or “village”. In 1535, inhabitants of the area near Quebec City used the word to direct the French explorer Jacques Cartier towards the village of Stadacona, a settlement on the site of Quebec City. This is how Canada got its name.

The Flag Of Canada The Canadian flag is a flag with red on the sides and a white block and a maple leaf in the middle. It is also known as the Maple Leaf and l'Unifolié (French for "the one-leafed"). The flag was the national flag for Canada from 1965 to replace the Union flag.

The Capital City Ottawa is the capital city of Canada and is the second largest city in the Province of Ontario and the fourth largest city in the country. Some of the attractions are: Canadian War Museum, Canadian Museum of Nature, Ottawa little theatre and many more.

The Canadian Currency This is the currency of Canada. There is the 1,2,5,10,20,50,100 dollars. 1,5,10,25,50 cents coins. 1 Canadian dollar equals New Zealand dollars.

The Language Of Canada Canadians speak 58% English and 22% French, they are a Canadian’s mother language. There are two provinces that have English and French as their provincial languages, New Brunswick and Quebec. Canadians think that English and French are their “official language". There have been 559,105 immigrants that have went to Canada (2009). Hockey and lacrosse are Canada’s national sports. John Cabot was the first explorer to reach Canada in 1497, that is how the Cabot Trail got its name. There haven’t been any mail deliveries on Saturday in Canada for the past 35 years. The oldest person in Canada was Marie-Louise Meilleur aged 117 years old.

Attractions In Canada Some of the tourist attractions around Canada would be: Pacific Rim National Park, Banff National Park, Niagara Falls, CN Tower, Old Port, Quebec City, Cabot Trail and The Parliament Building.
