WHAT’S A TECHNOLOGY SYSTEM? A technology system is a machine that processes digital data. A computer is a technology system. A computer installation is made up of collection of components. There are different types of technology system and also things they are used for. For example: Manufacturing Sector Construction Sector Health Sector Retail Sector Finance Sector

USES IN DIFFERENT SECTORS Technology is used in five different sectors. The sectors are: Manufacturing sector, Construction sector, Health sector,Retail sector and Finance sector. Manufacturing sector: use the technology for computer aided design and computer aided manufacture to produce products. Construction sector: construction is building houses, factories, bridges and large buildings. They use technology to plan projects, create architecture drawings & track spending on projects. Health sector: for doctors, hospitals and other medical organisations. The medical organisations use technology to scan patients, e.g. x rays, to monitor heart beats, breathing etc. Retail sector: selling products to customers. The use of technology is to track sales using tills/PoS (point of sale). Furthermore websites use e-commerce to sell items. Finance sector: involving money for mostly banking. The use of technology for this would be keeping track of money rates, income and also internet banking for customers

MANUFACTURING AND RETAIL I am mainly going to be looking at the manufacturing sector and retail sector. Manufacturing The manufacturing sector produces products to sell. Most manufacturing companies use technology like CAD (computer aided design) and CAM (computer aided manufacture). Manufacturers design a lot of component parts for computers. Retail Retail is selling products to costumers. The retail sector uses technology systems to keep track of sale using tills at PoS (point of sale). They also advertise online and use e-commerce to sell products. Furthermore, they produce reports about sales and profit.

REASON TO MAINTAIN TECHNOLOGY SYSTEM Reason to maintain a technology system (for example the retail sector): One will be that it will allow you to sell products to costumers and keep track of the items sold and the profits made. There are many other reasons to maintain a technology system. For example The sector might use the technology system to make a website for e-commerce. Most people maintain technology systems to produce profits and also to keep their business running because it is safe and easy and cheap. Maintaining and improving a technology system will allow the company to produce more profit and keep a safe eye on the income.

BENEFITS OF THE RETAIL SECTOR The benefits of using a technology system will be that it will allow you to make more money. It will also allow staff to get easy access to data and it will be easy to use. The benefits to the retail sectors will be that you will be able to keep track of profits made and items sold. They can also make e- commerce sites to sell products and items online. Furthermore, e –commerce sites will provide the company with more costumers so they can sell more of their products. Finally, it can give you reports about sales and profits made.

BENEFITS FOR THE MANUFACTURING SECTOR The benefits of using a technology system will be that it will allow you to make more money. It will also allow staff to get easy access to data and it will be easy to use. The benefits to manufacturing sector will be that the company will not have to make hand-made drawings. In addition, everything can be designed on CAD (computer aided design) in stead of it being hand-made. The benefits of this will be that it will allow you to have more then one copy of designs and also you can send files on instead posting. The benefits of will be that the will be sent immediately. Furthermore as it is on CAD, more people can work on it. You can have backup copies so that if you lose the hand-made copy you will have a backup. Everything is just a click away.

IMPLICATIONS The user will need to know how to use it. They will have to have training for the job, so they can use the hardware and software as well. The components for the hardware have to be in working order. Furthermore It needs to be user friendly for the workers and the users using it. There are risks such as : Component damage in the hardware. Lost data or data corruption. Service loss. Lack of electricity. Other risks.

HOW THESE IMPLICATIONS COULD IMPACT ON AN INDIVIDUAL OR ORGANISATION o The implications for this will be that the user will need to know what they are doing. o They will need to have training so that they will not make a mistake in the job. o They will have to have a strong electrical connection so they don’t loss any work if they is a power cut, as well as make sure that the servers don’t fail. o Decrease in productivity: The client will need to get used to working with new machines/ hardware. o Further costings may be involved. o The hardware may not work immediately, therefore the client will need to invest more to check the problems that they have incurred. o The client may not work at their optimum rate, therefore it will initially not meet these rates.

STRENGTHS BusinessStrengthsWeaknesses Installation of new hardware:The processing is really fast Installation period takes a long time, leading to less production Reduce costs by automating routine tasksExtra funding required, to patch any faults Improvement, in customer services/ relationships through more effective communication Bugs in the hardware, which prevent files/ old data from being accessed. Business efficiency improvement Loss of time, the business will need to invest a lot of time into research to find the best hardware. Extend business offers – Online shopping, support facilities etc. The hardware may be untrusted/ unreliable.

RISKS There is a risk of : Power cuts or severs going down. The people who are employed by the company might not know how to fix the computer or hardware as they have not had any training. Furthermore there is a chance of the hardware giving someone an electric shock when someone is trying to fix it, because there is electricity following through it. When the hardware is taken out, the employer might be careless and forget to put everything back in place.

SOFTWARE Software: A computer, phone, iPad and tablets all have software in side of them. Software is a programme on any device. Software includes an operating system in many devices. It is the part which runs the computer, phone, iPad and tablets. Software runs in binary number as 0 and 1. Businesses use software when they work. Businesses like supermarkets use software so that their costumers can self pay and leave. This makes it faster for the employer and costumer.

TYPES OF SOFTWARE AND BENEFITS Benefits of installing new software for Server Computers– Once installed with new software, the performance and productivity will increase. This would inevitably increase future profits and business clients. Server Computer – The software installed on a server and a computer are very similar. However the software installed on a server computer are integrated with more security. Software – Computer software is - the programs and other operating information used by a computer and its hardware. Client Computer – The software installed on a client computer and server are very similar. The software installed on a client computer does not require the level of security that is installed on a server. Benefits of installing new software for Client Computers– Once installed with new software, the compatibility, performance, security and productivity will increase. This would inevitably increase future profits and the number of business clients.

IMPLICATION There are many implications when it comes to installing new software for a business: Decreases profitable income for the initial stages of installation Due to the new software. It may not always work. Decrease in productivity. The employers will need to get used to working with new machines/ software. Further costings may be involved. The software may not boot up immediately, therefore the business will need to invest more to check the problems that they have incurred. Loss in customers, which will lead to loss in profit The company may not work at their optimum rate, therefore it will initially not meet these rates.
