Pistol Star By Aaron Levett

SIZE!!! The Pistol Star is about 450,520,000 kilometers in diameter, smaller then Betelgeuse, but compared to the Sun, it is huge. The Sun is about 1,392,000 kilometers in diameter. The pistol star is very big compared to Sirius A, Pollux, Rigel, and Deneb. The Pistol Star is almost 400 times bigger than the Sun.

Distance From Sun The Pistol star is about 25,000 light years away from our sun. Wow!!!

Temperature The Pistol Star is very close to the newest brightest star, with a range of 18,000-32,000 degrees Kelvin, or degrees Celsius. (See next page) The sun is only 6000 degrees Celsius.

How to calculate Kelvin From a degrees Celsius, you take the amount of degrees, and then add by degrees. This is how you find Kelvin, Example: 1000 degrees Celsius is degrees kelvin. Example: Water Freezes at 273 degrees Kelvin, and boils at 373 degrees Kelvin.

Color The Pistol Star is A blue hyper giant, compared to our sun which is yellow. Sun Is actually much smaller than comparison shown.

Brightness The Pistol star is one of the stars with the greatest absolute brightness. It gives of as much as 2 million times the amount of light in our sun. In 20 seconds, it gives off as much light and energy as our sun does in one year.

Hertsprung-Russell Diagram As you can see, the pistol star is a little brighter then to fit on diagram, so I added an un proportional line, adding the number of solar units. The dot is showing the temperature and color of the star.

Constellation The Pistol star is located in the constellation Sagittarius. Sagittarius, in Greek mythology is known as a centaur, which is half human, half horse. He was known as “The Archer.” The Sagittarius’s name was Chiron, and was accidentally shot by Hercules. In Recognition, Zeus put him in the sky, as the constellation Sagittarius.

Life cycle The pistol star, is a blue hyper giant, there fore it started from a nebula. It then evolved into a high-mass protostar. It is currently unknown what stage of it’s life the star is in, but scientists predict that in 1-3 million years it will explode into a supernova, or maybe even a hyper nova, which is even greater. It is currently predicted to be in it’s middle of life, because it burns off fuel so fast.
