Sacroiliac Joint Orthopedic Tests

PSIS And Iliac Crest

SI Joint Ligaments

Anterior SI Joint Ligaments

Gaenslen’s Test Procedure: Patient Supine. Affected side near edge of table. Flex knee of unaffected side to chest. Downward pressure on affected thigh until lower than table. Positive Test: Extension of the leg stresses the sacroiliac joint and the anterior SI ligaments on the affected side. Pain indicates SI joint lesion or sprain of the anterior SI joint ligaments.

Gaenslen’s Test

Yeoman’s Test Procedure: Patient prone. Grasp lower leg and passively flex knee. Extend hip. Positive Test: Pain indicates stress of the SI joint and / or anterior SI joint ligaments.

Yeoman’s Test

Hibb’s Test Procedure: Patient prone. Flex leg to the buttock. Then move the leg outward to internally rotate the hip. Positive Test: This test stresses the hip joint and causes a slight distraction of the SI joint. Pain in the SI joint indicates a sacroiliac joint lesion. Pain in the hip indicates a hip joint lesion.
