1. Introduction to Canadian Blood Services

What is Canadian Blood Services? MANDATE: To manage a safe, secure, and accessible supply of blood and blood products for Canada (except Quebec) National, independent, not-for-profit charitable organization Founded in 1998, taking over from the Red Cross Also manages the OneMatch Stem Cell and Marrow Network.

The Scope of CBS Over 40 permanent collection sites Over 20,000 mobile clinics/year Collect around 900, 000 units of blood annually Serves 732 health care facilities 4800 employees with annual budget close to one billion. Estimated 17,000 volunteers contributing 264, 000 hours / year

2. Youth Committee Organization

What is the Youth Committee? MANDATE: To raise awareness about blood donation and to recruit and retain blood donors, especially youth. Implements projects dedicated to fulfilling its mandate: –Community Outreach (COC) –Special Events (SEC) for donor appreciation

Executive Summary Positions –President –Vice-President –VRC –SEC –COC –CLO –VRCA

3. Youth Committee Policies

Membership Commitment Youth Committee operates 3 terms a year: –September-January (5 months) –February-June (5 months) –July-August (2 months) Youth Committee Executives have a term of commitment for 1 year (VRCA: 6 months)

Meetings General meetings will last approximately 1 hour Minutes are taken at all General meetings and will be sent out by Friday at the latest If you miss a meeting, you must read the minutes to familiarize yourself with the content before the next meeting
