The Master of the Renaissance Period Leonardo da Vinci The Master of the Renaissance Period

Biography of Leonardo da Vinci Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452, in Vinci, Italy. He was raised by his father, Ser Piero, and his stepmothers. At the age of 14, da Vinci began apprenticing with the artist, Verrocchio. For 6 years, he learned a wide breadth of technical skills, including metal working, leather arts, carpentry, drawing & sculpting. He was called a genius and the archetypal Renaissance man.

2 of his most famous works The Last Supper, tempera, 1494-1498, the Renaissance Period. Mona Lisa, oil, 1503-1506, the Renaissance Period.

Pictures of the Last Supper & Mona Lisa

Composition, main Elements, techniques Both The Last Supper and Mona Lisa are paintings using color, light, perspective technical precision, imagination, and composition. Da Vinci used direct observation in most of his works. He compared most of the details in his work with nature. The Last Supper is based on an impasto using oil and tempera. The Mona Lisa is an instant of total illumination, carried with equal intensity through the rocks and sky in the background. The Mona Lisa also has many details in the facial structure.

The Renaissance Art Period There are 2 different period of Renaissance period. The 1st period of art is the Early Renaissance Art. The year of the Early Renaissance Art was during 1401-1409s.in the later 14th century, the proto- Renaissance was stifled by plague and war, and its influences did not emerge again until the 1st years of the next century. The 2nd period of the Renaissance Arts the High Renaissance. The year length of this period was 1409- 1527s. Leonardo da Vinci’s works The Last Supper and Mona Lisa were some works created during the High Renaissance. Eventually after the High Renaissance Art were the expansion and decline of Renaissance Art.

inspiration Leonardo was inspired by one specific artist. This artist was the famous Verrocchio. He apprenticed Verrocchio starting at the age of 14. Leonardo never went to an art school. He was self educated. Leonardo and Verrocchio worked together to create the painting of The Baptism of Christ. Leonardo was not influenced by many at first. What largely inspired him to study anatomy, geology, medicine, engineering, mathematics, botany, etc… was nature. With all these things that he studied and compared to nature helped him with most of his work.

My inspiration IN DA VINCI’S WORKS The details in Leonardo’s compositions inspired me to choose him. All his compositions are all realistic looking. If I see it in my view, I think most of da Vinci’s works all have humans in the picture. Also mostly all of them are about a person or religious purposes. Mostly every compositions of his all have color, lines, shading, and other elements. Most of the paintings have beautiful and detailed background.

Why I chose his work I chose his work to imitate and create for my own work of art because I want to try drawing or painting a realistic composition. I want to try adding as much details as I can. I want to be like da Vinci by following his techniques. I want to try adding as much details as I can. I want to try being like da Vinci by following his techniques. I want to try making a composition with people in a stupendous background.

Which of da Vinci's techniques I will use Leonardo da Vinci I will try adding everything that learned from my past educational knowledge. I will also compare all my knowledge to nature. I will add background and some people in my composition like he did.
