Natural Resources/Economy The eastern part of Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado are part of the Great Plains. The nation’s largest coal reserves are found in Wyoming. The mountains, lakes, and streams make this area a popular destination for hunting and fishing. The mountains are a source of lumber and minerals. Oil and natural gas are produced throughout this regions. Uranium, used to power nuclear power plants, is mined in Utah.

Natural Resources/Economy cont’d Idaho is one of the nations leading producers of potatoes. Tourism is the biggest income producer in Nevada. Cattle and livestock are raised here. Nevada is the driest, or most arid state in our nation.

Hoover Dam Near Las Vegas, Nevada Generates hydroelectric power for the area.

Fast Facts Lake Mead is one of he largest human-made lake in the world. Wyoming has the nation’s largest coal reserves. Colorado is known for some of the world’s most famous ski resorts. Great plains are grasslands that support large cattle ranches and farms Nevada is the nation’s leading producer of gold and silver Snake River Plain is a leading producer of potatoes. Uranium, used at nuclear power plants is mined in Utah.
