Soda-synthesis By: Cole R. Slupski

Problem Do you have a garden? Do you hate it when your garden doesn’t grow fast enough? I might have the answer to all of your problems. So, does Dr. Pepper and Coca Cola affect the growth of plants?

Hypothesis I predict that the Dr. Pepper will make the okra grow faster. I think the Coca Cola will be too acidic. The water plant will grow at a steady rate.

Materials Okra seeds Water Coca Cola Dr. Pepper Grow tabs Plastic cups

Procedure 1. Gather all materials. 2. Research products 3. Plant okra 4. Feed with water until 1” high 5. Feed one plant with water, one with Dr. Pepper, and one with Coca Cola. 6. Record results

Results In the beginning, the Coca Cola Plant died. After awhile, the Dr. Pepper plant died. The Water plant WON!!!!!!!!!!! My Hypothesis was wrong.

Observations The weather was rough throughout the time period of waiting for the plants to grow. The plants all started at different heights. Clipping them would kill them. After 1 week, the Coca Cola plant died. A horrible odor came from the Dr. Pepper Plant at 1 ½ weeks. Then, the Dr. Pepper plant died after 2 weeks. The Water plant never died and will now be placed in my garden.

Conclusion I have concluded that Dr. Pepper and Coca Cola will not help your plants grow. Old fashioned water works the best. You should not use foreign liquids on your plants.

Thanks To… Mrs. Riffel, for letting me make her room stink. My father, for buying materials. Mrs. Riffel’s love of soda to use it in a science fair test. Myself, for doing the project My peers. They endured the horrible smell of one of the plants.
