There are many benefits of regular exercise to a person’s physical and emotional health

Exercise calms & relieves stress. “Physical activity stimulates neural stem cells and sharpens cognitive function.”

Exercise can help prevent or manage chronic diseases. “A lack of regular physical activity has been linked to a broad spectrum of chronic conditions, such as coronary heart disease (CHD), hypertension, stroke, colon cancer, breast cancer, lung cancer, osteoporosis, noninsulin- dependent diabetes, low back pain, obesity, depression, and anxiety.”

Exercise helps manage weight. In a study published by the Journal of the American Medical Association, the authors found that “women successful in maintaining normal weight and gaining fewer than 2.3 kg over 13 years averaged approximately 60 minutes a day of moderate-intensity activity throughout the study.”

Exercise boosts energy. Exercise or physical activity can improve one’s energy levels.

Exercise aids with sleep. “A study by sleep researchers at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine suggests that even short-term exposure to either morning or evening social and physical activity improves cognitive performance and subjective sleep quality in the elderly.”

Exercise can be just plain fun.
