Friendship Week! By Best Friends: Chloe & Grace

Friendship Week Friendship Week falls from the 6th to the 10th of February. During this week we can help Amnesty International by raising awareness of Human Rights. Friendship is important because you always need someone there to support you and have fun with! A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart, and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words."

Amnesty International Amnesty International were founded in 1962 by Peter Benenson, a British lawyer. They work to protect Human Rights in over 150 different countries around the world. They help people like street children in places like Guatemala to fight for Human Rights. We can help by donating money or buying our friendship bracelets this week! “What we can’t do alone we can do together!”

Human Rights What are Human Rights?

Human Rights! Human rights are universal, which means they are meant for everyone, no matter what their race, religion, nationality, age, political beliefs (or any other kind of beliefs), intelligence, disability, or gender identity are.

Examples of Human Rights All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood. The right to marry and have a family The right to have a fair trial and not to be sent away from our country against your will. The right to our beliefs and our religion. The right to have ideas and say what we think. The right to a home, enough money to live on and healthcare if we get ill.

The Rights of a Child What rights to children have? Every child has the right to… A good education. Security and nourishment. Freedom. To have a name and nationality. The right to have their views respected and to have their best interests considered at all times.

Friendship Bracelets There are many stories about the origin of Friendship Bracelets, but it is likely that their origin can be traced back to Native Americans Stories of the Native Americans (the first inhabitants of Oregon) and the children who travelled to Oregon along the Oregon Trail, often refer to the making of friendship gifts of all sorts. They chose different colours of fabric or thread to represent things or people they wanted to remember. By buying a friendship bracelet you are helping children from Guatemala and central America. The friendship bracelets that we are selling come from Guatemala.

Goodbye! Thank you for listening to our project. You can purchase your friendship bracelet or even get one for that very special friend tomorrow for €2.
