2 RIGHTS…. You do not have your FULL rights until you are 18. The following rights were established by the United Nations after World War II. The goal = prevent the Holocaust from ever happening again Not every country joined the United Nations, which means NOT every country guarantees these rights

3 YOUR ASSIGNMENT Write down one question or comment you have about each picture/slide. The pictures are meant to help you think critically. Keep the 30 Basic Human Rights page in your binder.

4 1. ALL HUMANS ARE BORN FREE WITH THE SAME DIGNITY AND RIGHTS.

5 2. EVERYONE HAS THE SAME RIGHTS REGARDLESS OF GENDER, COLOR, LANGUAGE, RELIGION, OR MONEY. Intolerance in 2016

6 #3 You have the right to a free and safe LIFE.

7 4. NOBODY HAS THE RIGHT TO MAKE YOU A SLAVE.

8 5. NOBODY HAS THE RIGHT TO TORTURE YOU, BULLY YOU, OR PUNISH YOU TOO SEVERELY.

9 6. EVERY HUMAN IN THE WORLD MUST BE TREATED AS A PERSON.

10 #7 Everyone has the right to be treated EQUALLY before the law.

11 8. IF YOUR RIGHTS AREN’T RESPECTED, YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET HELP FROM THE LAW.

12 9. NOBODY HAS THE RIGHT TO ARREST YOU OR PUT YOU IN PRISON UNFAIRLY.

13 10. IF YOU ARE ACCUSED OF A CRIME, YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO A FAIR TRIAL.

14 #11 You are INNOCENT until proven guilty.

15 #12 You have the right to PRIVACY. Nobody can tell lies about you, and nobody can look at your private belongings, writings, or body without your written PERMISSION.

16 13. YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO MOVE AROUND WITHIN YOUR COUNTRY. YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO LEAVE YOUR COUNTRY AND COME BACK TO IT IF YOU WANT TO.

17 14. IF YOU AREN’T SAFE IN YOUR COUNTRY, YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO GO TO ANOTHER COUNTRY.

18 15. YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO BELONG TO A COUNTRY.

19 #16 Every adult has the right to MARRY and have a family, but nobody can FORCE you to get married. In marriage, both partners are EQUAL.

20 17. YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO YOUR OWN THINGS.

21 18. YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO BELIEVE ANYTHING YOU WANT, TO PRACTICE OR NOT PRACTICE YOUR FAITH, AND TO CHANGE YOUR BELIEFS AT ANY TIME.

22 #19 You have the right to have any opinion and to CREATE art of any kind. You have the right to SHARE your opinions and your art with anyone from any country.

23 20. YOU HAVE THE RIGHTO MEET WITH OTHERS PEACEFULLY FOR ANY PURPOSE, BUT NO ONE CAN FORCE YOU TO JOIN A GROUP IF YOU DON’T WANT TO.

24 #21 Every adult has the right to an equal say in the government and an equal opportunity to work for the government. Every country must hold free and fair ELECTIONS.

25 22. YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO GET HELP FROM YOUR GOVERNMENT IF YOU ARE OUT OF WORK, SICK, DISABLED, OLD, OR CAN’T MAKE ENOUGH MONEY TO LIVE ON FOR ANY OTHER REASON.

26 23. ALL ADULTS HAVE THE RIGHT TO WORK AND MUST BE PAID FOR THEIR WORK AND TREATED FAIRLY AND EQUALLY IN THE WORKPLACE.

27 24. YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO FREE TIME.

28 #25 You have the right to FOOD, SHELTER, and HEALTH CARE.

29 26. YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO GO TO SCHOOL FOR FREE.

30 #27 You have the right to enjoy culture, ARTS, and scientific progress. You have the right to own anything you create or discover.

31 28. YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO LIVE IN A WORLD WHERE EVERYONE’S HUMAN RIGHTS ARE RESPECTED.

32 #29 You must take responsibility for PROTECTING your own RIGHTS and the rights of others.

33 30. YOUR HUMAN RIGHTS ARE YOURS ALWAYS. NOBODY CAN TAKE THEM AWAY.
