Financial analysts provide guidance to businesses and individuals making investment decisions. Financial analysts generally focus on trends affecting a specific industry, geographical region, or type of product. They assess the performance of stocks, bonds, and other types of investments. This accountant works at: banks insurance companies mutual funds pension funds security firms and other financial- type businesses. The financial analyst reads financial statements analyzes commodity prices reviews sales costs expenses and tax rates to determine future earnings or current business value. WHAT IS FINANCIAL ANALYST?

In 2010, about 46 percent of financial analysts worked in finance and insurance industries. Recommend individual investments and collections of investments, which are known as portfolios Evaluate current and historical data Study economic and business trends Study a company's financial statements and analyze commodity prices, sales, costs, expenses, and tax rates to determine a company's value by projecting the company's future earnings Meet with company officials to gain better insight into the company's prospects and management Prepare written reports Meet with investors to explain recommendations The financial analyst reads: financial statements analyzes commodity prices reviews sales costs expenses and tax rates to determine future earnings or current business value WHAT DO FINANCIAL ANALYST DO?

EXAMPLES OF FINANCIAL ANALYSTS Portfolio managers supervise a team of analysts and select the mix of products, industries, and regions for their company’s investment portfolio. Fund managers work exclusively with hedge funds or mutual funds Ratings analysts evaluate the ability of companies or governments to pay their debts, including bonds. Risk analysts evaluate the risk in investment decisions and determine how to manage unpredictability and limit potential losses.

EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s Degree in Finance Accounting Business administration Economics Finance Statistics or other Related fields 2-5 years of work experience in the financial services industry Experience in analysis and reporting of mutual fund or other investment returns preferred Experience in fund administration and financial reporting Knowledge of options pricing, bond valuation, and risk management are important.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: Knowledge of and experience in preparing financial statements Knowledge and understanding of the investment management process Knowledge of options pricing, bond valuation, and risk management are important Performance calculation concepts and analyses Strong technical skills including a high level of proficiency with analytical tools such as Excel High degree of focus on accuracy and attention to detail Demonstrated ability to identify unusual relationships in data and proactively conduct research to determine the cause Strong communication skills with varying levels of management Financial analysts study an industry, current business trends and competition in the industry.

FINANCIAL ANALYST SALARY AND WORK SCHEDULE The median annual wage of financial analysts was $74,350 in May $74,350 per year $35.75 per hour The lowest 10 percent earned less than $44,490, and the top 10 percent earned more than $141,700. Work Hours Financial analysts often work more than 40 hours a week. One-third of full-time analysts usually work between 50 and 70 hours a week.
