Introduction: Rajamäki Lower and Upper Secondary School

Rajamäki is located about 40 kilometres north from Helsinki, which is the capital of Finland. Rajamäki is very small and quiet place, actually “a village” in county named Nurmijärvi. This is our school. It’s pretty big and you may get lost when you are a newcomer. Many people have moved to Rajamäki from other parts of Finland. At the moment here lives about 5000 inhabitants. There live about 1 million people in our metropolitan area, on fifth of all the population of Finland.

There are over six hundred students in our school: 450 in the lower secondary and the rest in the upper secondary level. There are grades 7th – 9th in the lower and (pupils of 13 – 16 years old) and 1st – 3rd year levels in the Upper Secondary School. This is our main hall where the most of pupils meet their friends The school property consists of three buildings.

We have free lunch in four turns, but we have to pay for snack. School provides us with books in lower level, but in upper secondary school pupils have to buy books by themselves. Our class: We have a great atmosphere ! Most of the teachers are very nice and they're not very strict.

Between the lessons we usually have a 15 minutes break. At 7th grade we have 40 minutes to have lunch, at 8th grade we have 30 minutes to do it. Our school year splits in five periods. Each period lasts about two months. Periods aren't similar. We can choose some subjects in the 8th and 9th grades. We have some lessons in our 2 computer-classes - which is very good. We have one special voluntary subject in the 9th grade, that's Japanese.

Our headmaster is at the moment Mrs. Sinikka Pulkkinen. Made By: Siina Sammalisto, Iida Salonen, Arttu Lamminsivu and Tom Gustafsson
