History of Disciples Mission Fund (DMF) 1909 International Convention – Approved two committees to create a unified funding system – Worked independently for several years 1935 International Convention – Approves Unified Promotion – Reduces Special Offerings from 15 to 4 – Congregations agree to give 10% of their operating budget to DMF

History of Disciples Mission Fund (DMF) 1941 – Dr. Spencer Austin becomes the first Administrative Secretary 1957 – NBA (now DBS) becomes the last General Ministry to join Unified Promotion 2005 – Basic Mission Finance becomes Disciples Mission Fund 2007 – Office of the General Minister and President receives responsibility for Promotion, Interpretation and Treasury Services for DMF – Church Finance Council merges into the General Assembly

Mission Funding Today 2005 Changes – Allocated more resources to regions and fewer resources to general ministries (50/40/10) – Higher education remained the same – Four Special Offerings were designated Easter for General Ministries Pentecost for New Church (split 50/50 with regions) Thanksgiving for Higher Education Christmas for Regions Two Special Mission Funds – Week of Compassion – Reconciliation

Office of the General Minister and President

O FFICE OF THE G ENERAL M INISTER AND P RESIDENT As an office of the whole church, OGMP receives funding off the base of DMF 6.34% of every dollar to DMF supports the leadership and work of the GMP, General Board and Administrative Committee The General Minister and President serves as The spiritual leader of the church Chief Ecumenical Representative President of the corporation Establishes biennial goals for the church

The Office staff includes: Support staff to the GMP The Administrative Secretary of the National Convocation per the 1969 Merger Agreement General Assembly and General Board staff Staff for Communication, YearBook, Promotion and Treasury Services Staff for specialized ministries Week of Compassion, Center for Faith and Giving, and Reconciliation.

General Ministries

P ROGRAM M INISTRIES Division of Overseas Ministries/Global Ministries Seeks to provide critical presence with international partners meeting God’s people at the point of deepest need. Partners with the United Church of Christ to support over 150 missionaries serving in over 40 countries Works with over 160 international partners

Disciples Home Missions Works with regions to resource congregations for mission in the US and Canada Resources ministries related to women, men, children, youth, young adults, social justice, chaplaincy, evangelism, Christian education, refugee and immigration, and leadership development. Supports National Convocation merger staff for women, Christian education and evangelism.

P ROGRAM M INISTRIES Disciples of Christ Historical Society Preserves the heritage and history of the Stone- Campbell tradition Connects the past to the present and the future through Professional Historians. Council on Christian Unity Represents the church in key ecumenical activities around the world Provides leadership to Disciples of Christ for the interpretation of Christian Unity in the 21 st Century.

Higher Education and Leadership Ministries Develops and nurtures transformative leaders for congregations ministry programs. Networks the relationships of our 17 colleges and universities, 10 theological institutions and 80 campus ministry programs. Center for Faith and Giving Creates a culture of generosity, by teaching the spiritual discipline of stewardship Works with regions and congregations to provide resources that engage individuals in the spiritual discipline of generosity and faithful giving to their local congregation.

OGMP Communication Ministries Resources congregations for web, digital media and communication strategies Serves as a channel for whole church information and promotion through disciples.org, Disciples News Service, Facebook and other social media Advises the General Minister and President on media relations OGMP Promotion Ministries Promotes and interprets Disciples Mission Fund to the whole church Coordinates the development and distribution of Special Day Offering materials for Easter, Pentecost, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

R ACIAL E THNIC M INISTRIES Central Pastoral Office for Hispanic Ministries Develops programs and to offer pastoral care to Hispanic ministers, lay leaders and congregations Advises and counsels the different regional and general bodies of the Christian Church regarding Hispanic ministry Advocates for Hispanic Disciples North American Pacific Asian Disciples Affirms the cultures and heritages of Asian and Pacific Island people Supports and nurtures Asian and Pacific Islander congregations while working to support the mission of the whole church National Convocation Supports and strengthens the involvement of predominately African American congregations in the mission of the whole church By the 1960, 1968 and 1969 Merger Agreements, the Administrative Secretary is a member of the OGMP Executive Staff

Provides accounting services to Regional and General Ministries. Christian Church Foundation* Planned giving services Manages permanent funds Congregational consultations on endowment and other policies Offers long-term investments for congregations and all Disciples ministries Helps congregations provide for their own legacy *The Christian Church Foundation does not receive funds from DMF.

Pension Fund* Pension Plan and retirement savings Church-wide Health Care and Related Services Ministerial Relief Services and Benefits Church Extension* Assists congregations with building planning, capital fund raising and loan services Facilitates Disciple-to-Disciple lending Facilitates Disciple-to-Disciple lending Assists with Regional capital fund raising Coordinates the new church ministry priority for the whole church Assists declining congregations with assessment of their building challenges and assets for ministry *The Pension Fund receives DMF in support of Ministerial Relief.
