Your Camera Megapixels Sensor (CCD) Megapixels refers to how many millions of pixels (Picture elements) the sensor on your camera has. 5MP – Good 10 x 8 8MP – A4

SLR Talk through the image explaining how a camera works

Lens Explain different ranges on a lens, show them a lens Locate the focal length on their lens What range do their have?

Have a look at your camera and see what your focal length is. Try out different focal length with the person next to you

ISO Shutter speed Aperture Last week –Lets remind ourself’s

ISO 50/100/200/400/800/1600 Slow Fast How do we know what the light measurement is? Wright this in sketchbooks

Shutter speed 1/2/4/8/15/30/60/125/250/500 Slow Fast What does the shutter speed do??? Why do we pick a slow shutter? Or a fast shutter?

Aperture F Stop 2.8 /4/ 5.6 / 8 / 11 / 16 / 22 Small DF Large DF What a aperture? Wright this in your sketchbook draw a big circle and a small circle by which number it should be next to.

Metering Metering is used to measure the brightness of the subject. The camera adjusts shutter speed and aperture for optimal exposure according to the brightness of the subject, which is measured using the camera’s built-in metering sensor. The camera does not simply measure the overall brightness of the frame, but divides the frame into multiple areas. The metering mode determines which areas of the frame are used by the camera to measure subject brightness and how the camera sets exposure. Normally the camera uses matrix metering, in which it divides a wide area of the frame into multiple segments and sets exposure based on a variety of information, including subject brightness and color. You can also choose center-weighted metering (in which the camera assigns the greatest weight to the center of the frame) and spot metering (in which the camera meters the area around the selected focus point). Choosing a metering method according to the scene and your creative intent allows you to achieve results that better mirror your artistic vision.

Common Symbols Auto/easy/programme – Does everything for you Low light – Hi ISO / large hole for Fstop / Slow shutter speed. Foliage/Flower setting – Macro work Landscape – Large depth of field – longish ex Portrait Movie – Memory warning

Shooting Modes Shooting modes fall into three categories: Auto Scene And shutter- priority, Aperture- Priority, and Manual modes   In auto and scene modes the camera controls shutter speed and aperture And shutter- priority, Aperture- Priority, and Manual modes are known as exposure modes and give photographers a choice as to which elements-aperture or shutter speed- they wish to control. Shutter-priority The photographer chooses the shutter speed and the camera automatically adjust aperture for optimal exposure. Aperture-Priority The photographer choose the aperture and the camera automatically adjusts shutter speed for optimal exposure. Manual The photographer chooses both aperture and shutter speed, providing the greatest latitude for creative expression. Talk through

Mode Shutter Speed Aperture Auto Selected by camera Shutter-Priority Selected by photographer Aperture-Priority Manual Draw table in sketchbooks

Focus The area of the frame that the camera will use for autofocus is shown by focus points in the viewfinder. You as the Photographers can choose where the camera will focus by choosing a focus point. The selection can be made by the photographer or left up to the camera. The setting that determines how the focus point is selected is called AF-area mode.
