management vs leadership By Lauren Costantini

What I’m going to talk about. What is management? What is Leadership? How they are different.

Does anyone know the differences with leadership and management?

What is Management? Management is what runs a business. It keeps the business running. It tries to keep controls on situations Concentrate on Short-term Results Its structured It’s organized Management Vs Leadership, 1996

Manager Traits.. Management vs. Leadership, 1996

What is Leadership? Leadership is where you take over to lead people instated of manage people. Leaders have followers. Leaders inspire people. Leaders has Passion Leaders uses their heart. Changing minds org. 2010

What is Leadership contd. “ Leadership-both character and competence-is not taught that way at A.B. Combs. Rather, the 7 habits, the quality principles, and other leadership principles permeate most everything they do and most every subject they tech. Leadership is taught every day, though it often happens quite subtly and often unexpectedly… In other words, leadership is not “one more thing” teachers have to teach. It is part of everything they teach” ( Covey, 2008, P. 53). “ Using the ubiquitous approach, from day one student are taught principles of leadership. They are told they are leaders who possess unique gifts and that part of their expected contribution while at A.B. Combs is to share those gifts” ( Covey, 2008, p 57).

Leader Traits... Management vs. Leadership, 1996

What is the different between management and leadership? “Many confuse when should you manage and when should you lead. These are the two key roles to play on the stage of business is leader and manager. Discover the essential differences between great leaders and managers” ( legacee,2010) There is a big differences between leadership and management. A lot of people don’t think there is, but there are. Managers have subordinates. Leaders have followers. People who for managers have to do what they say, Followers are just voluntary. Managers have seniority, leaders do not. Changing minds.org, 2010

Here is a chart of the roles between management and leadership.

What’s the different contd.

Closing. From what you heard by me, you can see that there are many differences between leadership and management. Just a quick reminder though that, leadership had voluntary followers, that can leave there leaders or join. Management has people working for them, so they have control over these people. Management and leadership are similarly in there own little ways, but those similarly are very small. don’t get those mixed up with the traits behind them. You can put it like this, managers get paid, and leaders don’t. Or management works in the system, and leaders work on the system. "I don't like to be managed. But if you lead me, I'll follow you anywhere." — A comment heard in the halls of a large corporation

End. Questions?
