3 The State’s Economy New York's unemployment rate in June 2015 was 5.3 %, which was well below the year-ago level of 6.2 %. New York’s labor force rose by 105,800 (1.1 %) people over the year ending June The number of people employed rose over the year and the number of people unemployed but actively looking for work decreased over the year. (not seasonally adjusted numbers)

4 Total nonfarm jobs rose (175,400 or 1.9 %) between June 2014 and June The manufacturing, natural resources & mining, and information sectors lost jobs over the year. Private educational & health services; leisure & hospitality; professional & business services; trade, transportation & utilities; construction; government; financial activities; and other services sectors added jobs over the year. ( not seasonally adjusted numbers ) New York’s Nonfarm Jobs Are Rising

5 Central New York’s Economy: Total nonfarm jobs rose by 3,500 (1.1 %) between June 2014 and June 2015 in the Syracuse metro area. June’s unemployment rate of 5.4 % was below the year-ago level of 6.0 % in the Syracuse MSA. There are job opportunities in fields such as health care, engineering, computers, skilled trades, customer service, high-tech, scientific, R&D, construction, green-related jobs, leisure & hospitality, and accounting, as well as opportunities for entry-level positions. (not seasonally adjusted numbers)
