Where Do We Go from Here: Chaos or Community?  King discusses what African-Americans should do with their new freedoms. He concludes that a new equality of opportunity is required.  He states that the U.S. government should act directly to benefit individuals to remedy poverty.  HBCUs can produce sufficient science and technology graduates to meet the emerging challenges of a global society.  Federal agencies are focusing science technology, engineers and math 3

Strategic Thinking and Planning  Booker T. Washington moved away from the confrontational approaches embraced by his predecessor in the African American community (Frederick Douglass).  Washington developed strong working relations with key individuals to secure funding necessary to develop the University. The confrontational approach was not advantageous.  Many northern philanthropists gave to Tuskegee because Washington had a clear vision for how the school could help Southern blacks make a better life for themselves. 4
