Science materials Trivia! Year 1 Miss Ritchie

In this trivia what should we do? Respect ourselves Respect others Respect property Respect for learning

How do we answer a question? Hands up nice and tall No yelling – if you yell then your group will not be picked to answer Miss Ritchie will give you 15 seconds after a question is asked to discuss with your group what you think the answer is Miss Ritchie will give you 15 seconds after a question is asked to discuss with your group what you think the answer is

Let’s begin!

Question 1: Can you name some things that you remember about how the rocks felt yesterday?

Question 2: What material can we burn?

Question 3: What is something that we use aluminium metal for?

Question 4: What is something that we can do to paper?

Question 5: What are dome things that we can do plastic?

Question 6: Which material was stronger, paper or tissue paper?

Question 7: What is an action that we can do to glass?

Question 8: What were some materials that were smooth?

Question 9: What was some materials that were rough?

Question 10: Was there anything that you remember being able to bend?

Material Strengths How strong do you think it is?

Paper How strong do you think it is? How hard do you need to pull to tear it? If we spilt water on paper, do you think that would make it stronger or weaker? If we twisted the paper in a rope, would that make it stronger or weaker when pulling it apart?

Aluminium How strong do you think this is? Is it easy to rip? Is the aluminum plate stronger than aluminium foil? If you twisted the aluminium foil into a rope, would it be easier or harder to pull it apart

Plastic How strong do you think that plastic is? If you were to bend the plastic, do you think that it would make it weaker or stronger? If pulling a plastic bag apart, would it be harder or easier to stretch it if it was in a rope

Wood How strong do you think wood is? If we tried to break it, how successful do you think you would be? What could you do to make wood weaker?

Papervs.Plastic

Paper vs. Aluminium

Wood vs. Paper

Aluminium vs. Plastic

What did we learn today? What did you learn about these materials? Which did you think was the strongest material? Which did you think was the weakest material? Did you enjoy learning about materials and their strengths
