 Converting one unit of measurement into another  Measurement units are different from place to place ◦ Most of Europe uses metric units of measurement ◦ United States uses the USA System of Measurement  Different units measure different things ◦ Liquids ◦ Distance ◦ Weight 1. Rounded to the nearest ten thousandths place

 Metric to USA standard units ◦ Milliliters to fluid ounces -Measures liquid ◦ Kilograms to pounds  Measures weight ◦ Kilometers to miles  Measures distance  Knowing this can be important when communicating with people of other background and cultures. 1. Rounded to the nearest ten thousandths place

 When cooking you may need to convert grams into fluid ounces. For example, if you are cooking and the recipe calls for ten grams but you only have a measuring cup that is in fluid ounces.  When you are weighing something and the scale reads in kilograms, but you're answer has to be in pounds. Sometimes this is done in doctors offices.  When you travel, you may need to convert how far you are going from one unit to another. If your unit of measurement is in miles and markers are in kilometers, this would be very useful. 1. Rounded to the nearest ten thousandths place

 Fluid ounces are abbreviated fl. oz. and milliliters are abbreviated ml  To find fluid ounces ◦ 1 fl. oz. = ¹ ml  n = number of ml.  5 fl. oz. is x 5 = ml  To find milliliters ◦ 1 ml is.0338¹ fl. oz. .0338n = number of fl. oz.  5 ml is.0338 x 5 =.169 fl. oz. 1. Rounded to the nearest ten thousandths place

 Pounds are abbreviated lbs. and kilograms are abbreviated kg  To find pounds ◦ 1 lb. =.4536¹ kg .4536n = number of kg  5 lbs. is.4536 x 5 = kg  To find kilograms ◦ 1 kg is ¹ lb.  n = number of lb.  5 kg is x 5 = lbs. 1. Rounded to the nearest ten thousandths place

 Miles are abbreviated mi and kilometers are abbreviated km  To find miles ◦ 1 mi = ¹ km  n = number of km  5 mi is x 5 = km  To find kilometers ◦ 1 km is.6214¹ mi .6214n= number of miles  5 km is.6214 x 5 = miles 1. Rounded to the nearest ten thousandths place

1. Sally is baking a pie. The pie calls for 2 fluid ounces of milk, but she only has the equipment to measure in milliliters. How many milliliters of milk does she need to bake the pie? 2. Josh needs to know how much his dog weighs in pounds. The scale he is using only measures in kilograms. If his dog weighs 10 kilograms, how many pounds does his dog weigh? 3. The train Sean is riding on traveled for 80 miles. His friend in England wants to know how far he traveled in kilometers. How many kilometers did Sean travel? 1. Rounded to the nearest ten thousandths place

4. Jack needs to drink 64 fluid ounces of water per day. He has already drank 64 milliliters of water. How many more milliliters of water does Jack need to drink? 5. Jane’s bag of sugar weighs 5 pounds. How many kilograms does it weigh? 1. Rounded to the nearest ten thousandths place

1. 2 x =59.15 ml x = bs x = km x = Then subtract – 64 = ml 5. 5 x.4536 = kg 1. Rounded to the nearest ten thousandths place
