To ensure that only authorised staff has access to secure areas at the airport. Existing card management system had to be replaced as it reached the borders of its capacity Renewal of smart cards Iris recognition and user weight stored on the smart card Efficient deployment of security staff Vehicle control in combination with driver Redesign of the badge centre where the access cards are issued Schiphol - Staff access control project

© LogicaCMG All rights reserved 12 LogicaCMG involvement LogicaCMG has been involved in: Implementing the Card Management System and personalisation equipment Implementing the iris technology Business process analysis / redesign badge center and related departments Requirement specification of the biometric part of the project Testing (FAT, SAT, SIAT) Training and instructing employees

Other relevant projects Involvement in redesign of the Passenger process at Schiphol to: Reduce the waiting time Lower the costs of the stakeholders Improve the quality of travel for the passengers Make use of biometric functionalities of the ePassport

Examples of future use of biometrics for travelers Call airline to check-in from home, using voice verification technology to verify identity of the traveller over the phone Retrieve your boarding pass from kiosk by offering your ePassport and biometrics (for example fingerprint, face, iris, palm vein) Boarding pass holds biometric information in a printed barcode to prevent transferability of boarding passes Self service luggage drop off; using ePassport / biometrics to verify the identity of the traveller Boarding plane using: ePassport with fingerprint technology Boarding pass with biometrics (barcode)

Trial project international airport Enrolled 12 subjects by taking multiple enrolment images Asked them to pass through each location (over 1000 passengers pass by per hour) Set initial threshold very low to gauge where to set the limit Asked them to walk through at different times with different levels of people Reviewed the results timeline and identified matches. Numerous matches per location were counted as 1 match. Considerations Environmental conditions Camera positioning Type of camera Human behavioural characteristics Processing power and architecture design

Pilot project at PSV Eindhoven Existing infrastructure Find registered hooligans with a stadium ban during the soccer game Police operator involvement Identification > 90% PSV Eindhoven – Face recognition

Shoppingmall Zuidplein – Face recognition 1.Test face recognition technology to find shoplifters within the shoppingmall premises. 2.Test face recognition based on the current camera infrastructure. 3.Usage of PDA’s to send alarms to security guards Results: > 90 % correct identifications

Conclusions A controlled environment (lighting) provides the best performance If you can, position the cameras in optimum locations for facial recognition and do not rely on existing CCTV camera locations Field of view and depth of field need to be considered to eliminate blind spots Important to study peoples behaviour and flow at locations The network architecture and where the processing take place has a huge bearing on performance Biometric identification of non compliant subjects from CCTV is feasible

Project Ariane – face recognition Project to modernise police investigation information systems LogicaCMG is the prime contractor for this very large project Project aims at providing 150,000 Police Officers with IT tools to assist them during the crime investigation phase Face recognition technology for a 4.5 million records photo database The project includes –migration of existing data –implementation of an exchange tool –statistical analysis applications –collaborative work tools –advanced search engine, –face recognition technology and image comparison tools

Dutch ePassport Trial To trial an ePassport with facial scan to comply with ICAO guidelines and for two fingers fingerprints to comply with EU guidelines The ePassport complied with the US guidelines for the Visa Waiver program 15,000 Dutch residents were enrolled and received the new ePassports for the 6 month duration of the trial LogicaCMG were responsible for the: –Systems Integration –Enrolment system –Personalisation –Applets on the chip –RFID –Selecting and managing suppliers

Building Security Management System Unilever Global Solutions – Facilities Corporate Center Rotterdam & London Integrated system for building access control, cameras and intercom Challenges: During migration the buildings must remain continuously under control Existing cabling had to be reused as much as possible The architecture must support remote locations and has to be open for future developments and needs Central security room has to be in control of all buildings Benefits to customer: System alerts employee for undesirable situations All cameras are digital recorded 24 x 7 Search functionality on all camera recordings Motion detection for enhanced camera usage Ease of use thanks to integration of systems Shared and better information supplies Optimized control desk Better overview and control over all buildings and environment Open architecture for future developments like biometric implementation Need Need: Functional requirement analysis Architecture design Supplier and system selection Proof of concept implementation Project management System configuration dropdrop Scope: Replacement of old building access control system by a new web and Oracle based system Replacement of old CCTV system by a new digital recorded camera system with motion detection Replacement of old intercom system by a digital system 5 Buildings, 150 doors, 100 cameras, 30 intercoms Video wall for camera viewing and touch panel for control System interaction via network and automated alarm action Hands free functionality at main entrance Badge suitable for catering

The future: new developments New matching algorithms appear Biometrics continuously improve in accuracy New biometric technologies Combining biometrics: Multi modal searching and fusion

What is multi modal searching and fusion? The technology to combine multiple forms of biometrics and biographical information to search for an identity or to verify someone’s identity

Multi-Modal Fusion Why? FBI Watchlist – persons – searches / day – 3 hours downtime/day FingerFace… US Visit growing –From 60 to 500 mio persons –From 1 to 3 mio searches/day –0 sec downtime/day Single biometric Small databases No performance requirements No spoofing issues Accuracy not issue Persons Multiple biometric & biographic Huge databases Sub-second requirement Spoofing major concern Accuracy issues due to size PastNow9 / 11 FingerFace…

Biofuse ™ Searching from a single client application on biometric and biographic databases Using biometrics like face, finger, iris, DNA, speech, etc. Using fuzzy searching on textual / biographical data Fuse the separate search results into one ranked result list Increases accuracy, reliability Independent of biometric algorithms, which provides vendor lock-in Gives the ability to add new sources / databases

Multi-Modal Fusion How? Measure the degree of fit between each criterion and the data, and gives it a score between 0 and 100%. Combine these scores to determine an overall score for a particular record Unweighted score

Multi-Modal Fusion How? Measure the degree of fit between each criterion and the data, and gives it a score between 0 and 100%. Combine these scores to determine an overall score for a particular record Weighted score

Features: Weighing criteria Iris Ethnicity Hair color Name Fingerprint Eye color Set separate weight of each input criteria according to: importance quality / reliability of the biometric algorithm quality / reliability of the offered input DNA

Features: Gliding Scales Flexible ranges for every quantitative property Height Weight Value Frequency etc.

Features: Affinity Matrices

Biofuse ™ Biofuse™ offers a solution for: Identifying or verifying someone based on the given input criteria Unlocking / combining biometric and biographic sources / databases Using any type of biometric algorithm Used for border control purposes, using various forms of biometrics (face, finger, iris) Using fuzzy searching on text data
