AIR POLLUTION

INDEX AIR POLLUTION CONSEQUENCES HEALTH PROBLEMS POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS IN OUR COUNTRY: ANDALUSIA JAÉN BAILÉN MARTOS

What is air pollution? Air pollution is the introduction of harmful material into the atmosphere, causing damage to living organism and to the environment.

Industry Large amounts of chemical compounds, released into the atmosphere. Chemical, electrical and metallurgical plants.

Traffic Emissions of various types of gases, fumes, dust and particles, for example, diesel fuel emissions. Traffic is responsible of the 30- 90% of air pollution.

Consequences Air pollution has serious consequences every day, and can cause health problems or strange atmospheric phenomena. AIR POLLUTION NATURAL MAN-MADE

Health Problems Respiratory diseases Allergic reactions Physical exhaustion Viral diseases Lung cancer

Apply the power of the 3Rs: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle Potential solutions Apply the power of the 3Rs: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle

AIR POLLUTION IN OUR COUNTRY The Top Ten polluted cities in our country are: La Línea de la Concepción, Cádiz (18 microgramos/m3) El Ejido, Almería (18 microgamos/m3) Toledo (17 microgramos/m3) Málaga (17 microgramos/m3) Barcelona (16 microgramos/m3) Granada (16 microgramos/m3) Jaén (16 microgramos/m3) Logroño (16 microgramos/m3) Sevilla (16 microgramos/m3) Valencia (14 microgramos/m3)

ANDALUSIA The Andalusian Government has promoted some plans for the Improvement of the Quality of Air to reduce these emisions.

Jaén In the area of Jaén, recorded data reveal high traffic pollution in the summer months.

Bailén Bailén has about 154 chimeneys of the ceramic sector and brick industries. It is one of the most contaminating cities in the area of Jaén. There are lots of companies that have not assessed the health risks for more than 2,500 workers.

Martos Martos is a very important producer town of olive oil in the region of Jaén. It has a lot of factories so all of them expel a high amount of pollutants

From 100 kgs of pressed olives you get 20kgs of virgin olive oil and 80 kgs of “orujo”. “Orujo” is a residue in the production of the olive oil. It is the solid part of the olive: the mixture of olive pit, peel and pulp.

The problem of “orujo” The problem is that this residue is quite polluting for the environment. In Martos, the factory “LAMARCA” has been denounced by the residents in the area.
